If you pay any attention to the Kardashians, or skincare trends, or both, you may remember Kim Kardashian West’s televised and much-talked-about “vampire facelift” back in 2013.
The procedure that Kardashian West received, also sometimes referred to as a non-surgical facelift, is a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection facial—and it’s available at MagnifaSkin MedSpa in Wilmington.
The all-natural procedure has become extremely popular. It yields firmer, smoother skin texture, improved skin tone and color, and a decrease in fine lines and wrinkles—all in just a few days. Plus, it can decrease the appearance of acne scars and make skin look tighter, smoother and more youthful.
Here’s how it works:
A small amount of blood is drawn from the patient’s arm and put into a machine called a centrifuge. The centrifuge isolates the blood’s platelet-rich plasma (PRP). A microneedling procedure then injects the PRP into the patient’s face. (Head to MagnifaSkin Medspa’s Facebook page to see a video of how it’s done!)
Why does this procedure produce such great results? Because injecting platelets into the face tricks the body into thinking that there has been an injury. This harnesses the body’s natural healing and regenerative abilities, prompting new collagen formation in the face.
MagnifaSkin MedSpa also uses PRP injections to stimulate new hair growth, either in dormant hair follicles or newly transplanted ones. Many patients see an increase in hair density as soon as four months after their first treatment. Treatments are generally done at a minimum of three times per year, spaced one month apart; after that, maintenance treatments are done approximately twice a year.
