CoolSculpting

A healthy body is the foundation of a happy and active life. Many of us follow strict diets and go to the gym regularly but due to genetic limitations are still unable to achieve the body we want. Whether it's tummy, thighs or somewhere else, stubborn deposits of fat that just won't go away no matter what we do are a problem for the majority of us. These stubborn fat deposits make us feel insecure about ourselves, as though we've somehow failed but the truth is that for a lot of us, if the genes aren't there it won't matter what we do. At least not in terms of diet and exercise. Fortunately there are other options such as CoolSculpting to deal with those rebellious fat deposits.

CoolSculpting to the Rescue!

While our cultural judgements of excess fat are changing for the better, the fact still remains that many of us see the 'ideal' body as having no visible excess fat. We all dream of having that sculpted and flawless 'magazine-cover' body, both men and women. We need to remind ourselves that for most of us this simply isn't possible, and that being healthy is much more important. What no one tells you is that for many of those magazine cover models, they looked like that for a few hours. The result of months of training, strict diet and dehydrating to reduce subcutaneous water. Even they don't usually look like that so beware of using the models as the 'standard' for a perfect body. It simply isn't realistic.

We've all been told that diet and exercise are the key to having that 'perfect' body. But this is only partly true. While we certainly aren't telling you not to exercise many studies have shown that exercise is almost completely ineffective for fat loss. Diet is the key. Avoid sugar, processed grains and in fact processed foods of any kind. This will not only keep the fat off, but is a much healthier diet. If you're eating healthy, keeping your daily calories at or below maintenance and getting regular exercise you're already doing everything you can to ensure the trimmest and healthiest body your genes will allow for.

With CoolSculpting we can painlessly remove those stubborn remaining fat deposits, no matter where they are on your body.

So What is CoolSculpting All About?

If you don’t already know, CoolSculpting is a fat-reducing treatment that is completely non-invasive and pain-free. No surgeries or liposuction required. With a series of appointments we can freeze the fat cells away without damaging your skin.

Cool features of CoolSculpting

    • Permanent fat loss
    • Naturally breaks down fat
    • Zero downtime
    • Results are visible from 8 weeks
    • Can treat large and small volumes of fat
    • Much more affordable and convenient than surgery
  • More suitable for smaller areas

How Does CoolSculpting Work?

In a procedure known as ‘cryolipolysis’ CoolSculpting lowers the temperature of the target area until the fat cells freeze. Or at least that's the simple explanation. It gets a lot more 'sciency' than that but we promise no more unpronounceable Greek words. First, don't think of it as freezing the fat cells solid, like a bag of chicken stock in your freezer. It's not necessary to freeze the cells solid, only to lower the temperature enough that the cell nucleus is damaged. This effectively turns the cell's repair functions off. The cell dies in time, and your body simply flushes it away as 'waste material'.

How Does it Not Freeze the Skin?

This is the cool part (pardon the pun). Due to having much lower blood flow than skin cells, our fat cells are less resistant to low temperatures than our skin cells. CoolSculpting is calibrated to reach the perfect temperature at which the fat cells will die but the overlying skin cells will not be harmed.

When Do I Get to See Results?

Unlike other invasive fat-reducing treatments, you will not be able to observe any instant results right after the treatment. CoolSculpting is not your option for an overnight slim body. The results will appear within 2 to 3 weeks of the treatment. You will begin to notice better results gradually, within a period of 1 to 3 months. Patience is required.

Is CoolSculpting for Everyone?

No. There are limits to what CoolSculpting can do. If you are obese CoolSculpting won't help. You will need to explore other avenues, such as liposuction. CoolSculpting is for those whose body fat percentage is within a healthy range but where stubborn fat deposits remain.

The closer you are to your ideal body the more CoolSculpting can help.

It's important to have realistic expectations, but with patience and in some cases, multiple treatments exceptional results can be achieved.

Is CoolSculpting Safe?

CoolSculpting was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2010. Since then, the treatment has gained worldwide popularity and is still one of the best non-invasive treatments for reducing stubborn fat. It’s a safe procedure that involves cryolipolysis. Most patients experience numbness, redness in the treated area, and a tingling sensation that soon goes away on its own. The cryolipolysis device does not harm your skin, tissues, or organs during the procedure in any way but targets only the fat cells.

CoolSculpting Vs Traditional Liposuction

Medically, both Liposuction and CoolSculpting offer weight loss but the methods involved are very different. Before CoolSculpting became a trend, liposuction was and still is one of the most sought-after weight-loss treatments that can give a patient dramatic results. However, you need to bear with all the surgery pain, recovery period, bruises, and swelling. Liposuction can even cause infections and contour irregularities which can ruin your body appearance altogether. For those who fear the post-operative scars that take time to fade, liposuction can be a long-term commitment when compared to CoolSculpting. While we don't want to scare you, in some rare cases liposuction can result in necrosis of healthy tissues, with life-threatening results.

One of the remarkable features that allows CoolSculpting to stand out from other fat-reducing treatments is how it leaves no scar after treatment and requires no recovery time. The results may take a few months to appear but last permanently.

Which other weight loss treatments are available?

  1. Healthy lifestyle (Diet & Exercise)
  2. Liposuction
  3. Laser liposuction

Healthy Lifestyle

Maintaining a healthy diet and working out regularly will help you prevent weight gain in the long run.

The natural approach to a better body is through exercise and a proper diet. Following a regular workout routine, ditching junk food, and consuming more vegetables will keep you fit in the long run. Along with keeping fat cells at bay, you will feel more energetic at work, be more productive, have visibly healthier skin and sleep better at night. Exercise also has many benefits for mental acuity and mood.

Liposuction

Liposuction has been around for many years now and has proven to be a popular fat-reduction treatment because it's effective and can be used to remove large amounts of fat. The invasive procedure involves the use of a suction tube to remove excess fat from the patient’s body. Liposuction is an effective treatment that can reduce belly, arm, or thigh fat dramatically. If you opt for liposuction do understand that while it can make you lighter it won't make you any healthier. The health risks associated with obesity come not from the subcutaneous fat but from 'visceral' fat. This is fat in and around your organs, especially your liver. The industrialized diet that most of us are eating today eventually causes non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. This results in a host of health problems including diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, hardening of the arteries and obesity. It's important to understand the obesity is a symptom. It is not the disease. While it's true that 80% of obese people have fatty liver disease, so do 40% of 'normal' weight people.

Laser liposuction

Unlike traditional liposuction, laser liposuction is a minimally invasive treatment that is geared towards patients who want to get rid of stubborn fat in smaller areas. The process is not recommended for overweight individuals and instead should be considered for final body shaping purposes or minimal reductions.

Fat reduction treatments may not always be a “one size fits all” solution. As we all have different body compositions and genetic limitations, it is important to consult with a professional before choosing a weight-loss treatment for you.

How Long Does CoolSculpting Last?

Many individuals fear that the results of CoolSculpting will wear off after a few months. CoolSculpting kills fat cells which are then naturally excreted from your body so the results are permanent. This does not mean that you can eat and rest as much as you want after the treatment. You must maintain a healthy lifestyle to ensure that you do not gain weight again. While your body has a 'set' number of fat cells and won't make more, the cells you have can store large amounts of lipids, or fats. So just because you killed off some of your fat cells, doesn't mean the remaining cells won't pick up the slack and increase in size if you continue to eat an unhealthy diet.

What Should I Expect During the Procedure?

Cool-sculpting-what-to-expect

The target areas of your body will be marked as per your requirement and weight-loss goals.

As mentioned earlier, CoolSculpting is a non-invasive treatment which means that there will be no incisions or cuts during the procedure. The procedure is very simple and can take between 35 to 60 minutes to complete each session. At first, we will mark the target areas on your body where you want to reduce stubborn fat cells.

Then, a suctioning device will be attached to those target areas to freeze your fat cells. This device is nothing like the suction tubes used for liposuction. Nothing goes inside your body. It just pulls tissue into a 'lump' where it can be more easily subjected to lower temperatures.

Just as the name suggests, you will experience intense cooling and eventually feel numb. Some patients mentioned feeling a tingling sensation, tugging, mild pinching, pulling and that’s about it. You can watch shows on Netflix or read a book while you shed those fat cells. Once done, the targeted area will be gently massaged to reduce any discomfort and you’re good to go home or even to the gym.

How Often Should I Get CoolSculpting Sessions?

It greatly depends on the individual and the amount of fat that you want to shed. Some may achieve desirable results within 2 to 3 sessions for each target area while others may require more. You will need to wait at least 60 days between your sessions.

Final Words

A little extra fat on our arms, thighs, belly, hips, or any other area of our body often makes us feel insecure about ourselves. Sadly, losing weight is not as easy as gaining weight which is why it is so important to maintain a healthy diet and workout regularly. Think of fat like debt. It's easy to use that credit card and run up debt. It's much, much harder to pay it off.

Unfortunately most of us never had this explained to us when we were young and so never developed the good habits that lead to 'fat debt'.

Losing weight is a difficult and significant commitment to make. If you've already done all you can with diet and a healthy lifestyle CoolSculpting can be the answer you've been looking for to take you from 'I guess I look OK' to 'I look fantastic!'.
