tear trough filler

The tear trough is the area between the lower eyelid and upper check. As we age, the area can lose its elasticity and become hollow, or sunken in, causing you to appear older or tired. These hollows also create shadow, or bags under your eyes, and no amount of sleep, hydration or under eye concealer seems to make them go away. For some individuals they are an inherited trait as well.

The good news is that tear trough fillers are a safe, effective and non-invasive way to reduce, or fill in these hollows, giving your face a younger, more refreshed appearance. Tear trough fillers are injections of a gel-like substance called hyaluronic acid that naturally occurs in your body. The acid fills in these hollows to increase the fullness and fill in the volume loss under your eyes. The procedure can diffuse the shadows that make you appear tired.

Dermal Filler Before and After

How Does It Work?

At Magnifaskin MedSpa, we use three families of fillers, Juvederm, Restylane and Revenesse Versa. Our staff will meet with you for a consultation where we examine the texture and depth of the skin under your eyes decide which filler is best for you. We can also answer any of your questions and give you instructions for the day of your procedure.

When you come in for your treatment, we will cleanse the skin under your eyes. We may apply a topical anesthetic or ice to numb the are under your eye before the procedure. Then, a needle or cannula prepared with the filler of choice will be injected into the undereye area where the filler will be deposited. The treatment lasts about ten minutes.

Does It Hurt?

It sounds scary to have a needle injected into the area under your eyes, but it is not as painful as it sounds. You may experience some brief discomfort as the needle is inserted, but it should not last. The actual injection of the filler is virtually painless. We can discuss any kind of pain management during your initial consultation.

How Long Do the Results Last?

You should see immediate results from the injections, and there is no down time. The full results will continue to emerge over the next one to two weeks. The treatments, depending on which filler is used, last an average of one year, but can last between 6 to 18 months. As hyaluronic is a natural, water-soluble solution, it does dissolve over time.

Aftercare

After your injection, you may want to put ice on the undereye area to reduce any swelling. You should avoid sleeping face down and any strenuous activity for the first 48 hours after your treatment. Using a good quality eye cream can help build up hydration and collagen in the area.

Are There Any Risks?

When eye trough fillers are injected by skilled and well-trained professionals, the risks are minimal. The injections are less invasive than surgery. There can be a small amount of swelling, bruising, nodules or bumps under the eyes, which should resolve themselves quickly. You can use under eye concealer to cover any bruising that may occur.

Very rare side effects include an allergic reaction to the filler, infections or vascular occlusion, where filler was inadvertently injected into a blood vessel under the eye. If you experience any side effects that last longer than a week or two, call us so we can address them.

Hyaluronic Acid: The Magic Behind Dermal Fillers

Hyaluronic acid. Sounds scary? Not really. Hyaluronic acid is just the fancy medical term for a sugar compound that occurs naturally in our bodies, and which is responsible for maintaining
facial fullness and elasticity in our skin by binding to water like a sponge, absorbing up to 1,000 times its weight in water. Over time though, as we age, our bodies produce less of this important compound. Juvederm can help restore youthful levels of hyaluronic acid.
